To avoid this post being too long, I’ll go straight to the point. I know 2019 will be a defining year for me. It will be the year I intentionally challenge myself to be better and to do better. As I try to figure out how to make the best of the time and opportunities I will have this year, I came up with 15 questions to help. If answered honestly, I believe these questions will put you in a good position and set you on a solid path to making this year your best and defining year.
So here are 15 questions to answer. I will update this post later this week with a printable version of these questions.
1. What Is Your Word Of The Year (WOTY)
Choosing a WOTY is choosing one word to be your over-arching theme. It allows you to set goals while also being flexible with what needs to be done. Having a word of the year gives you focus while still allowing you the flexibility to change, adjust, and refine goals throughout the year. My word of the year for 2019 is Intention. No matter how my goals change and what comes up, I know that I want to live this year with intention and purpose. I want to continue to live slowly and find beauty in everything.
2. If You Could Only Accomplish One Goal, What Would It Be?
We tend to set so many goals at the beginning of the year and somehow fall off the wagon mid-year. With this one goal, you get to draw the big picture. This is the one goal you want to look back in time and say “YES, I DID IT”. This will be the defining goal for your 2019. If there’s one thing you want to remember achieving in 2019, this should be it. Having this one goal in mind, you’ll know that everything else you do this year, should lead you to achieve this goal.
3. Which Habits Do You Want To Change, Cultivate Or Get Rid Of?
We all have things we want to change, adopt, or improve upon. This is the time to sit down and think of those things. What are the habits you must adopt in order to achieve your goals? Do you need to have a morning routine? Journal more? Read more? Workout more? Do you need to spend less time on social media? spend more time loving yourself? Whatever it is, think about it and write it down.
4. What Do You Want To Achieve Career-Wise?
I know so many people who read my blog are in their 20s. While I don’t think you have to have your life perfectly in order by the end of your 20s, I do believe that you should at least take bold steps in the right direction career wise. It’s okay to still be “figuring it out” but what do you need to do this year to propel you into your career?
5. How Do You Want To Remember The Year 2019 When You Look Back 20 Years From Now?
Do you want to remember this year as the year you made bold moves for your career? The year you came out of your shell or the year you put yourself “out there” for love to find you? The year you made your first $5000? What is it? You decide!
6. List One Each Of The Following Goals: Career/Investment, Financial/Savings, Personal Development/Self Care, Health/Fitness, Faith/Spirituality, Friends/Family, Social/Travel.
I have learned that breaking goals down in categories allows you to easily find actionable steps to achieve them. For this year, I broke down my goals into these 7 categories. You can do more or you can do less. But save yourself from large bogus goals and actually set realistic goals with steps to
7. What 5 Qualities Does The Best Version Of Yourself Possess? What Qualities Do You Wish To Have That You Don’t Currently Have?
I think we often hear “be your best self” or “be the best version of yourself” but no one really thinks about what that looks like or how to go about it. I recently sat down and envisioned what the best version of myself looks life and boy was I shocked by how far my current self is from my best self! I’ll explore this in the coming months. Be sure to subscribe to this blog so you don’t miss out!
8. Who Do You Need To Have On Your Side This Year?
I have learned a big lesson about doing life alone and have also learned that there is power in great friendship and accountability partners. Who are some people you can count on to hold you accountable and love on you on days when you just don’t feel like it? Who are some people you can love on in 2019? Take friendships and accountability partners seriously this year.
9. What Does Your Ideal Day Look Like
If you want to make 2019 your best year yet, then you want to be able to account for one of your most valuable assets- TIME. You have 24 minutes a day, how do you spend all that time? Trust me, 24 hours is enough time if spent wisely. Being able to manage and account for every minute of your day is so important. No more wasting time on social media and on things that really do not matter.
10. If You Could Change One Thing From 2018, What Would You Do Differently?
To make 2019 your best year yet, It’s important that you don’t keep playing the same trick yet expecting a different result. So look back at 2018 and the years past, what would you do differently and in what way will that affect your progress in 2019? One of the things I’m doing differently this year is eliminating digital clutter and spending less time on social media while still maximizing the time spent.
11. What Is One Thing You Must Purchase To Propagate Your Vision For 2019
One thing I have learned is that investing in yourself is never time/money wasted. While investing in yourself isn’t always monetary, it’s okay to acknowledge when it is and spend wisely. Do you need to pay for that Visa to travel? Or to pay to learn that skill you’ve always wanted to. Do you need to save up and invest in photography or in a car? Write it down to enable you have a good financial plan.
12. Learning From 2018, What One Advice Would You Give Yourself For 2019
We are often very good at giving others advice but not taking our own advices. This is your turn to sit down, write and advice yourself. Speak tenderly to yourself and challenge yourself to take your own advice. It’s time to listen to yourself and trust yourself more!
13. If I’m Telling You A Big Congratulations In December 2019, For What Achievement Would It Be For?
This goes in line with question 2 but also allows you to set another major goal, or to wish and dream! What do you want to be congratulated for? And what are some steps that you could take to achieve that?
14. What Three Things Must You Do Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly?
This is where you write down your actionable steps to reaching your goal(s). Do you need to read daily, finish a book weekly/monthly? List at least three things each. Don’t shoot for the starts here, be rational and gracious to yourself.
15. What Three Things Do You Want To Learn/Master In 2019.
Again, another opportunity for you to expand on things previously listed. This time, if you could only master 3 skills, what would they be? Think about skills that bring you one step closer your your dream life.
That’s it! I hope you find this post helpful! I know I did! Remember, these aren’t just questions to answer one time and throw them all away. Write this somewhere, duplicate it, and review it on a regular basis. I say review it weekly!
